Vitamins
HI, CONGRATS
You’re preg. Whether you’re 3 weeks pregnant or 12 weeks you have definitely begun navigating through all the do's and don'ts of pregnancy. One big question that often pops up is: What about vitamins? We all know they're always good for our health, but during pregnancy, our health feels more important right!?
Sooooo let's talk about the good stuff. Certain ingredients in vitamins should be EMBRACED during this time. Folic acid is like the superhero of prenatal vitamins. It's known to help prevent neural tube defects in your baby's brain and spine, so it's a must-have. Then there's iron, which helps your body make more blood to supply oxygen to your baby. And of course, we can't forget about vitamin D, which helps your body absorb calcium and keeps those tiny bones nice and strong. Many doctors recommend taking a prenatal that has extra folic acid. Here is one that our founder loves!
Just like with all things, all vitamins are created equal when it comes to pregnancy. There are definitely some you should overall just stay away from. For instance, vitamin A in high doses can possibly be harmful to your baby, so it's best to avoid those mega-dose supplements. This has been studied for years and any amounts in pre-natal vitamins will be safe. It’s also a time to not just try what you see. You know that new random herbal supplement you got a targeted ad for on instagram- while when not pregnant may be completely fine, it is best to reach out to your doctor about any of these. Even though they might seem to be “all-natural” and harmless, they sometimes can do more harm than good. It is always ESSENTIAL to chat with your doc before adding any new vitamins or supplements to your routine.
